Special Operations Medical Association (SOMA) Conference Emphasizes Importance of Extending ‘Golden Hour’ to ‘Golden Day’

Perfusion Medical continued its engagement with key military medical stakeholders, participating in this week’s Special Operations Medical Association (SOMA) conference in Raleigh, NC. SOMA is the only medical association in the world that brings together this unique blend of prehospital, tactical, wilderness, austere, disaster, and deployed medicine.

SOMA 2025 offered a platform for military and civilian medical providers, academics, and industry partners from around the world to meet and exchange ideas. The conference is the largest gathering of Special Operations Forces medical providers worldwide, comprising U.S. military, foreign military, domestic tactical law enforcement, and tactical EMS personnel.

Perfusion Medical representatives were particularly struck by how many of the conference discussions referred to the importance of extending the ‘Golden Hour’ to the ‘Golden Day’ and the critical role of whole blood in saving lives, especially given the associated logistical challenges on the battlefield. In medicine, the ‘Golden Hour’ refers to the critical first 60 minutes after a traumatic injury, during which swift and effective medical intervention can significantly improve a patient’s chances of survival and reduce long-term complications.

Perfusion Medical is developing PM-208 which is designed to rapidly re-establish blood flow through tissue capillaries to resolve ischemia and enhance organ perfusion. The treatment has the potential to improve survival outcomes, including in settings where advanced medical care is limited or delayed.
